History and significance:

Watching Atlantic grey whales in Wales

Historically, Cwmtydu was a hub for smugglers and pirates who utilized the numerous caves and coves in the area. Some of these caves are still visible today, bearing witness to the area's tumultuous past. A restored lime kiln on the beach serves as a reminder of the area's industrial use in centuries past.

Wildlife:

Quiet beaches in Wales for relaxation

Visitors have the opportunity to observe these impressive animals in their natural habitat, while maintaining a respectful distance so as not to disturb them.

Activities:

Cwmtydu Beach is a popular starting point for hikes along the Wales Coast Path, which offers spectacular views of the coast and surrounding landscape. The hike takes visitors through diverse landscapes, including forests and cliffs, allowing them to experience the region's diverse flora and fauna.

Access and facilities:

Access to the beach is via a steep staircase leading from a small nearby car park. Due to limited parking opportunities, it is recommended to arrive early, especially during the summer months. I love this place and i have enjoyed popping down for over 30 years...... Nice short walk for the dogs, either up the path on the right turn right at the top 200 yards back on the road and down to the car park. There are a few variations to that walk and I love it, so do my dogs. So why only 3 star......1 a fantastic cafe changed hands around COVID and is now permanently shut 2 the local authority advertise, on line, a bus service. As far as I can make out it was cancelled last year 3 people park anywhere. 4 idiots take their dogs on the beach when the seal pups are there And last but by no means least people keep finding the place ( this bit is very tounge in cheek) It is nice. It is only 4 miles away and I do love it........ but it needs a bus service and at the very least a mobile snack van

Very small beach but absolutely gorgeous. The river emptying into the sea, the chance to see seals up close it’s all pretty magical.

Dog friendly hidden gem of a beach with paid carparking of £2 per hour a little more than many others or there is a small free parking at the top of a steep hill into the place - the ice scream place makes thier out and is lovely

Quiet even on a hot August day. Dog friendly, small river flowing down. Just toilets a minute away. No cafe or lifeguards. Mostly pebbles but fine for a swim. Parking free or a pound in honesty box.

Cymtydu is a beautiful, secluded hamlet of cottages with river leading to the beach. Access to the beach is sometimes limited during seal pup season. Otherwise its a delightful spot to sunbathe, swim, build sandcastles or trek the coast path. Ample car parking is available, with public toilets, just a short walk away. The little cafe was up for sale when I visited so I'm not sure if it's currently open for business so you might need to take a picnic is you intend staying all day.
